Work
Went to work with Mom today. Wow what a day. It was fun to be with Mom all day. She talks to lots of people. Lots and lots of meetings talking about numbers and clothes and stuff. Lots of paper. Lots of people coming in her office all day.I don't think I like her job so much...no banana breaks. Boy, I'm glad I brought my toys. I think it's kinda boring talking about numbers and stuff. I like all the people. We went to lunch and we got to eat in a nice resturant together. Then back to work. It was a really long day with no nap time and no recess for Mom. I took a nap. Glad I brought my favorite blanket too. I think I like school better than work. Why don't they have nap time and reces? I think those meetings would be better after a nap. It doesn't make sense. It might be kinda fun if they had recess and nap time.

Boo!

Halloween is almost here! I love Halloween. Scary movies on TV. Looking at costumes. Trying to decide what to be for Halloween. I bet I will try on at least 6 outfits. Me and Dog and Bunny will make lots of plans. Party or Trick or Treating? So many decisions to make. I can't wait to watch to watch Dracula..and I recorded The Blob too. This is going to be so fun. I can't wait. I don't like candy as much as I like bananas...but Mom will trade candy for bananas. Dog wants to go as Wolverine. Snigger. I think Dog thinks he is soooo handsome. I think I'll go as the headless horseman. Or maybe Zorro. Bunny is going as Eeyore. We will get to carve pumpkins and make popcorn balls. Mom will make chocolate covered frozen bananas. We will decorate the house with all kind of fun things. Like I said I just can't wait.

Ireland

So we all just went on vacation.
It was really cool to experience lots of new and different things. New and different ways of doing things. It was so exciting! We went to Ireland. They do things lots different than we do. Or maybe as Daddy says, " we do things differently than they do". They drive on the other side of the road. The stick shift is on the left instead of the right. They eat enormous breakfasts and they drink instant coffee. The money is different and the taxes are REALLY high. They don't tip and all the electrical outlets have on/off switches. There aren't a lot of sock monkeys around. I got lots of stares and lots of people giving me bananas and asking if they could pet me. Everyone was really nice. All the people there made us feel really welcome and right at home. We traveled all over the country and stayed in a different town every night. We went to the Guinness storehouse..Mom even let me have a little pull of her pint. tee hee. It was really funny tasting. I think I like my Banana juice better. I really liked seeing how things were so different. How different cultures do things. It's really nice to be home with Dog and Bear and in my own bed again..but I really like Ireland and hope to go back again.
Have bananas

So I am still stuck on this whole, "you get what you think about" thing. Part of me really believes it. After all I think about bananas almost constantly. And you know what I am almost always surrounded by bananas. (no, this is not a commentary regarding the mental health of my parents). But we always have bananas on hand. I'm not old enough to go to the store alone..so despite the fact that I am dependent on others for them..I always have them. I never imagine or worry that there will be none..and I never experience the " noneness" I only experience the "having" or the plenty. Mom says this works for everything. The trick is to only imagine the good and to keep the focus off of the not having or the lack of. Mom says that the universe (or God if you prefer) will always produce what ever you are focused on. So the focus of not having produces not having. I think it makes sense. But I am not about to try thinking about the not having of bananas. It is far to scary a thought to even try. I'll stay where I am and only concentrate on the having.

Relatives
Mom says they are also the ones you can count on when the going gets tough. The ones who you can call in an emergency and the ones who love you even when you don't deserve it. I guess it's nice to know people/monkeys like that. But I am always lovable..so who wouldn't want to help me and good golly Mom and Dad will always be here to take care of me.

Saturdays
Sun, Sand and a cold glass of Banana juice. The toils of the week are but dim memories in my monkey brain. How quickly we let the robes of responsibility and conforms of society drop from our shoulders as we change from our work selves to our weekend selves. My weekend self is so different from my weekday self. Why is it that the two are so different? Do I have a split personality? Is there something wrong with me? Or am I like every other monkey? Do we all have two or more selves? Are these personalities or masks we put on to get the job done? Dad says they are all a part of me and that I just emphasize some more than others when I need them. It's how I get through daycare and pre-school. So I am Morty the amazing with my friends and Morty the sweet and wonderful with Mom and Dad. I am that @*&%$#@! snotty monkey to the air conditioning man (that's why I blow boogies on him). I am Morty the adorable with to Grandma-ma. I guess I am all of these. All of these.. plus more that I have yet to discover, are who I am. I am looking forward to discovering more! What an adventure.

Fathers Day

I made a Fathers Day card for Dad today. Well almost. The glue is drying. (not boogies for those of you who read my earlier post). I love making stuff. The paper, the glue, the sissors. Mom making chicken pot pies while I work my art at the kitchen counter. Mom didn't even have to remind me...this year.
Dad. Hmmm. What a great idea Dads are. I love sitting with Dad on the couch watching a game and eating bananas until I bust. Mom comes home to find us sprawled out on the couch, banana peels piled on the floor. Rootbeer bottles everywhere. I belch in greeting to her raised eyebrow. and giggle a bit. This is boys time! She stalks off to another room. shaking her head.
Dad and I finish the game. slugishly and half heartidly pick up our mess and adjurn to the deck to enjoy the last vestiges of daylight. Here we sit in silence (uncommon for me, but I am sure that I am on the verge of a food coma) rumminating on life together. I finally work up the nerve to ask Dad what I've always wanted to ask him.
"Dad, why did you adopt me"?
His reply surprised me.
"Mort, I wasn't sure I wanted a kid. And then well.. your Mother spotted you and..it was as if we had never been without you. Sort of like finding out you've lived your whole life without your left arm"
That was it. I'm not sure what I expected. But WOW.... Maybe something like,I don't know " I researched it for 12 years, visited the congo and volunteered at the primate house, and then I knew I was ready you" But to admit he took no time in wanting or thinking about it..that he just loved me on first sight. Wow. I wasn't sure if I should be mad or happy. I'd had too much rootbeer to be mad so I decided to be happy.
After all...Dad is the one who picks me up when I crash on my bike, when I get sand up nose or fall from the ceiling fan. He's the one who imparts words of wisdom, boyness and what mom refers to as trouble. These are the gifts he gives me everyday.
Thanks Dad.

Herding cats
Mom says getting us all together to go to something communal is like herding cats. Quite frankly I didn't know anyone herded cats. I'm pretty sure it's not a job I want.
She says that sometimes moving us towards our destiny is much the same. We don't seem to want to go even when it could be a lot of fun. I might want to go if bananas were involved.
We get bumped, prodded, pushed and finally shoved until we move from our comfortable place to another place that after much adaptation becomes our new comfortable place where we quietly and comfortably remain until we are prodded forward again. So we snarl, flip boogies, grunt, moan and complain. We think we are so smart and so all knowing. We sit around sipping banana and lime juice complaining about it all, when we know we have to move with flow. We go on and on about the terrible things that make our lives change, forgetting that our lives are... all about change. Maybe being the person that makes people change can be good? Maybe even noble?
So maybe being a cat herder is not so bad.

Ring around the Rosie and other inappropriate things

Played with my friends today. Did you ever realize what a strange idea Ring around the Rosie is?
We played for hours. round and round we go...dizzy dizzy..we all fall down. I asked mom about it. What does it mean and who the heck is Rosie any way. Let me tell you...I wish I had not asked.
The Plague....
Yuk and icky!
Sometimes it's better to just have fun with something and not know the details. EEEUUUWWW.
The question is...at what point do we decide that it is important to know the details??? You know at what point is it a social no-no and at what point is it innocent? How is a monkey to know? What if I make a mistake? Is it offensive to Teddy if I mention a Bear Market? Does Rufus get mad when I say Dog days? Gosh, maybe it's just safer to sit and look at the wall and suck on frozen bananas.

Sometimes things are better after a little time out
Ok. I am better now. I guess I needed the time out. Mom and Dad didn't like the whole "cake" thing. No bananas for a whole day either.
Here is a picture of the wall in my room.
I spent a couple of hours staring at it.
I spent a couple of hours staring at it. Maybe it's important to know when you time out before someone tells you that you need it.
Sometimes Mom and Dad take time out. They just go for walks alone or just hang out by themselves. Maybe that's why they don't get cranky too often. Just a tip...don't tell people to go "eat cake" you might get time out when you don't want it.
Sharing..or not
Sharing. Hrumph! Mom and Dad can eat cake!
All I want is this banana. And that bunch of bananas.
...and maybe that lamp over there.
Why do I have to share. It's not fair. Bananas are my
favourite food. And no! I did not wake up on the wrong side of the
hammock today. I just don't want to share my nanas!!...!
